Lightspeed is an unofficial news and chat Internet mailing list.

An Internet mailing list is a group of people who all receive the same e-mail. When a subscriber posts a message, it is automatically forwarded to everyone else on the list.

Lightspeed is hosted free of charge by The American University in Washington, DC.

The purpose of Lightspeed is to provide an informal forum for the discussion of issues that are interest to its subscribers.

Subscription to Lightspeed is free.

Lightspeed is available in both message-by-message and digest formats. (In digest mode, all posts for a single day are combined as a single message and delivered at 6:00 every morning.

The opinions expressed on Lightspeed are entirely those of subscribers and do not necessarily reflect the views of The American University or Integrity.

How safe is Lightspeed?

Lightspeed is designed to be a safe place in cyberspace for its subscribers to communicate. A number of precautions have been taken to ensure this:

• All prospective subscribers must complete an information form and agree to Lightspeed's Terms of Subscription before being admitted to the list.
• All subscribers must be dues-paying Integrity members.
• Only the Listowner can add new subscribers.
• Only subscribers can post messages to the list.
• Only the Listowner can see who else is on the list.
• All posts on Lightspeed are to be regarded as confidential. A subscriber who violates confidentiality may be removed from the list.

To date, these precautions have been highly effective at protecting subscribers. However, no Internet mailing list can be made completely secure from hackers, queer bashers, or plain old gossipmongers. So, those who are not completely "out" should be somewhat cautious.

How do I subscribe?

Lightspeed is free. However, you must be an official member of Integrity in order to submit and application for subscription to Lightspeed! If you are not currently a member of Integrity but would like to join, click here. Once you receive your membership card, you may apply for Lightspeed subscription.

To submit an application to the Listowner for consideration to subscribe to Lightspeed, click here and complete our online subscription form. If your application is approved to subscribe to the list, your e-mail address, name, and chapter or regional affiliation will be included in your subscription header. All other information will be kept confidential by the Listowner.

Once you have been subscribed, you will be able to post messages directly to the list. You will also be able to end your subscription at any time.
